The year I decided to redesign my life

One January day long ago it became clear my previously happy life was going to change irrevocably because my husband who had moved out months ago to live with someone else made it clear he was never coming back.

In the middle of grief and shock I remembered some words a wise older Irishwoman had whispered to me years ago:

‘I know we shouldn’t generalise, but…you do realise, don’t you...that women are the stronger sex?’

She said it with the air of someone passing on an important secret it was vital for me to know and she made sure no one else could overhear us, especially any men.

As that New Year began – the year of having to reimagine my life, the Year of Operation Me – I hugged these words to myself like a shield. I’m passing it on to you, my metaphorical sisters, in your own year’s journey.

So what follows is a series of fortnightly posts on what specific actions I took about different areas of my life that needed to change if I was going to:

  • survive, and
  • thrive.

Plus the thinking behind the actions I took. A sort of strategy for the way forward.

What worked? What didn't? What did I learn? How has it all turned out?

Will my experiences help, support, encourage, inform others who can relate to this?

Areas in which I developed, refreshed, and reinvented myself, and what I'll be covering
